Our RE Vision

As a Church of England school, we believe that Religious Education both supports and strengthens what we aim to do in every aspect of school life.

Our Principles of RE Teaching

We know that great Religious Education happens in our school when...

  • Our curriculum reflects developing the whole child; spiritual, morally, socially, culturally and intellectually.
  • Children develop a sound knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other faiths.
  • Children understand the influence of beliefs, values and traditions on individuals, communities, societies and cultures.
  • Children engage with religion in a sensitive and open way.
  • Children are encouraged to explore and learn to communicate their own beliefs, values and experiences.
  • Children are equipped with the skills of investigation, reflection, empathy, expression and evaluation for the real world.

Christian Value – Friendship (Autumn 1)
Friendship is a key value in our society, with children often spending more time
with their friends than with family. It is an important concept in the Christian framework too with Jesus telling stories of the heavenly banquet to which all are invited. The barriers between
people are broken down in a loving community around God and Jesus had stern words to
say to those who refused to recognise that all are included in this community of
friendship.

When a child or member of staff displays our Christian value, it is displayed on our Christian values tree as part of our whole school prayer space.

'A friend loves at all times.' (Proverbs 17:17)

Collective Worship Council
The Christian value is promoted throughout the school and explored in our weekly virtual Collective Worships. The children in the Collective Worship Council are planning, delivering and evaluating many of our Collective Worships and are keen to promote 'friendship' among their peers. Why not take a look at our 'home pack' below to find out even more about it?
