My name is Miss Cross and I teach the fabulous Year 4 class also known as Pod 5. I have been part of the team at Acton for five years and I thoroughly enjoy working with the children in Year 4. We also have Mrs McCarthy in our bubble, and Mr Scott who will be delivering Active 30 for the children each day.
Spring 2020 -21
This term we will continue to provide the children with a broad and balanced curriculum which will be mainly focussing on English, Maths, PE, RE, Science and computing. There will also be opportunities to promote the childrens' mental health through our well-being sessions such as Time to Talk and our Happy Minds programme. Through picture news, the children's global awareness will be developed and in addition we will still develop opportunities for creativity within our curriculum.
English: We have 2 set texts for the Spring Term Arthur and the Golden Rope, through this, the children will write their own myth and produce an instruction text on how to defeat a Viking Monster whilst developing their knowledge of spellings, punctuation and grammar. We will then be reading Manfish the story of Jacques Cousteau, which is a beautiful storybook explaining how young Jacques became an amazing undersea explorer by following his dreams. The children will be writing both stories and poetry and a biography.
Maths: We will focussing on place value and addition and subtraction up to 10,000. Before moving onto multiplication and division.
Science: Animals including humans is a biology based unit. The children will be covering both the areas that they were due to cover during the Summer Term lockdown and their current scheduled syllabus.
RE: We have been looking at the imortance of God to Hindus and how they celebrate their beliefs and for the latter part of the term we are looking at the Easter story and how Christians celebrate Easter through the arts.
Computing/IT: We are developing the children's range of IT skills through Google suite including google classroom, we are also continuing to use Purple Mash.
Your child will continue to receive spellings each week which they will practise both at home and in school ready for a weekly spelling test in school. The children can continue to use TT rockstars to practise their times tables and also they can use the same site and password to access Numbots. Every child has an Oxford Owl log in so that they can access a variety of books at home and school. The children can access many curriculum areas on Purple Mash and practise any areas of maths and English that they may be finding tricky.
In addition there are some great free online resources to support your child at home.

The two sites below have games that reinforce concepts that children may still find tricky from earlier year groups so are great for revision of concepts, consolation and practice
