My name is Miss Cross and I teach the fabulous Year 4 class. I have been part of the team at Acton for five years and I thoroughly enjoy working with the children in Year 4. The class also have some specialist Art sessions with Mrs Smart and PE sessions with Mr Gibbons. In addition to this, we are fortunate to receive weekly Music tuition from Love Music Trust.
Our Real Life learning topic this term is "Light's Camera Action." This topic involves looking at designers and fashion and upcycling garments to create a new masterpiece. We usually celebrate our achievements with a fashion show and I'm always blown away by our children's creativity.
Each week I will be adding a folder to this class page full of activities that can be completed at home.
In addition to the White Rose Maths lessons, Singapore Maths textbooks and workbooks are now available online for parents, if you wish to access this at home please contact myself at email@example.com so I can request passwords on your behalf. Year 4, pupils are also expected to know all of their multiplication tables up to 12 x 12. Times tables can be practised using TT Rockstars.
Each week I will be adding a variety of spelling activities, reading comprehensions, SPAG and also some writing activities from Literacy Counts. If you have an avid story writer in the midst The Literacy Shed uses short animation clips as a stimulus for writing. There are also prompts on each page for the type of writing your child could produce. I will also be adding activities such as topic and Science based activities where appropriate into our class folder.
Mrs Smart has been adding some fantastic art challenges to the school facebook page and it has been lovely to see so many of your masterpieces on there. Don't forget you can send me examples of your work via our class email.
Reading at home is one of the best ways to support your children at this time so please continue to read with your children daily – it is particularly beneficial if parents can continue to discuss unfamiliar vocabulary, the plot and characters and that children are encouraged to make predictions about what might happen next in the story. Children can develop their abiltiy to read between the lines using their inference skills by being asked "Why do you think? type questions.
I have also added a flexible timetable to the class folder which you may wish to follow, although I appreciate no two families are the same and these are challenging times, but it may help you to add some structure and timings to the activities set.
But you are all doing an amazing job!.
Additional Homework/Home learning
Maths:We highly recommend using this home learning resource from White Rose to help teach your child maths at home to suit their specific year group. There are five daily lessons for each week and they provide audio teaching and related worksheets free to download for your child to complete. They suggest to spend between 20-30 minutes on each daily session.
