WELCOME TO THE YEAR 4 PAGE.

My name is Miss Cross and I teach the fabulous Year 4 class . We are very fortunate to also have Mrs McCarthy in our bubble, and Mr Scott who will be delivering Active 30 for the children each day and Miss Smith who will be teaching Geography and French each Monday afternoon, this term.
Summer 2021
We are looking forward to teaching the full curriculum again for the Summer term and I am sure the children will be buzzing with all the exciting things that we have planned.
English: We have 2 set texts for the Summer Term – The Lost Happy Endings and The Journey, both books will be used to develop the children's writing skills through engagement in quality texts. We will also be reading Around the World in 80 days to support our geography topic.
Maths: In maths we will be covering division, graphs , fractions and time initially in the first part of this term. Followed by decimals, shape and angles in the latter part of the Summer term.
Science: In Science we will be covering States of Matter in the first half of the term then moving onto electricity for the second half of the summer term.
RE: In R.E we will be studying a unit all about Prayer and our Christian value for the first half term is hope. In the second part of the Summer term we are studying Judaism in RE and our Christian value is based on service.
Geography/ History: For the first part of the term we will be continuing with the theme Around the World in 80 days, developing the children's geographical skills and knowledge of the world around them. We will then be moving onto studying James I, in our History topic, the Forgotten Flamboyant King and our final topic will also be history based and is called War, Fire and Pestilence.
In Music we are looking at rhythm and having a go at composing and performing our own musical pieces.
Computing/IT: We will be using IT to gather data about the weather in our "We arre meteorologists unit, before moving onto to sessions on coding and finally we will be using IT to create music in our "We are musicians" unit.
PE: In PE we will be developing our skills in both outdoor athletics and cricket, rounders and tennis.
Well being/ mental healthand RSE :We will also be using a range of materials to support the children's physical and mental well being including continuing with the Happy Minds programme, Kiva, Time to Talk and No Outsiders programmes.

Homework
Your child will continue to receive spellings each week which they will practise both at home and in school ready for a weekly spelling test in school. The children can continue to use TT rockstars to practise their times tables and also they can use the same site and password to access Numbots. Every child has an Oxford Owl log in so that they can access a variety of books at home and school. The children can access many curriculum areas on Purple Mash and practise any areas of maths and English that they may be finding tricky.
In addition there are some great free online resources to support your child at home.

Resources to help you

The two sites below have games that reinforce concepts that children may still find tricky from earlier year groups so are great for revision of concepts, consolation and practice

If you wish to contact me you can put a note in the child's communication diary, email the school office or email year4@actonceprimary.net.
