My name is Mrs Baxter and I teach in Year 2. I am looking forward to welcoming the children back and helping them to settle into school life again.
Keep an eye on the class page for any letters that I send out. You can also follow the school social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date with the latest news and events.
Your child will receive spellings each week to practise at home ready for a weekly spelling test in school. Your child now has their own personalised login details for TT-Rockstars. They can logon both in school and at home to practise their times tables.
If you have any questions please write a note in your child's communication diary. You can also contact me via the school office or on the Year 2 email address: firstname.lastname@example.org I will endeavour to support you and your child the best I can.
In Literacy this half term we will be exploring A River by Marc Martin. We will take inspiration from the text to write our own circular stories and letters.
Please make sure you're reading with your child each night and sign their communication diary when you've heard them read. Two RWI books will go home with your child each Monday and be returned to school on a Friday to be cleaned over the weekend.
We have now covered the gaps missed in Year 1 and have been focusing on number and place value. Our focus is on 2-digit numbers and understanding the place value of tens and ones. We are using the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction to solve missing number problems.
In RE we will be focusing on Christian baptism and Jewish naming ceremonies. If your child has been christened it would be lovely if you could share any photos, candles or certificates with them and talk to them about their special day.
In computing we will continue to improve our key skills such as touch typing and being able to navigate the internet and word documents. We are learning how to access Google Classroom and Purple Mash as home learning tools.
Time to Talk
To help children transition back into school life and to support their mental health in such uncertain times we will continue with our Time to Talk sessions four times a week. They will follow five main themes; managing feelings, developing self-efficiency, promoting connectedness, developing hope and gratitude and building resilience.
