Welcome to the Year 1 page . My name is Miss Bloore and I will be teaching the wonderful Year 1. I am excited to welcome the children back from their Summer Holidays . I am delighted to say we are back teaching a full curriculum and Mr Scott will be leading our daily Active 30 sessions. If you have any questions about your child's learning please contact me via the children's diaries or the school office. I will always do my very best to support you and your child. I will upload all letters and resources we send home to support your child to this class page (where possible). I will also use this page to update you with what we are currently learning about in class. Please also follow the school Facebook/Twitter accounts for up to date information and celebrations of work.
In Literacy we will be exploring the text 'Paper Planes' by Jim Helmore. Our main aim for our writing this half term is to secure the children's understanding and ability to apply capital letters, full stops and finger spaces within their writing as well as build the children's vocabulary. We will be looking closely at letter formation and increasing the children's writing stamina.
Please read with your child 15 min per day and sign their home school diary. The children are currently being re- assessed in our read writing inc reading scheme and new books levels will be re- issued shortly.
We are introducing our Singapore maths scheme, as part of the scheme they will complete a focus task and daily workbook activity. Our topics for this half term are numbers to 10, number bonds and addition within 10. Additionally we will also complete a daily maths practise where we will be looking at correct number formation initially.
Our new topic is Where is Acton? the children will be looking at the history and location of Acton. As part of this topic we will be looking at significant building within the village and identifying the similarities and differences between the old and new.
In computing we will be using the Beebots to introduce basic programming and short algorithms . The children will be using their problem solving and reasoning skills to negotiate the Beebot around a basic obstacle course. We will also be touching on internet safety when online and gaming. This will run closely alongside our RSE curriculum. Children will also have access to Numbots, spelling bee to support their learning.
In RSE we are looking at how to recognise and regulate our feelings and how to form positive relationships with our peers. We will also be celebrating the similarities and differences within our families and traditions.
Please use the communication diaries to send any messages as these are checked everyday. Alternatively, you can call the school office. Please always let me know if some else is picking up your child or any change of arrangements.
If you child has to isolate and there's learning at home you may use the class email to communicate with the teacher.
Please note this email is not monitored daily when no one is isolating so please use the communication diary as the first means of communication to ensure a prompt response. You can also use the class email if you want to send in any celebrations or achievements.
