Welcome to the Reception Class Page.

Mrs Sykes is the Reception class teacher and we are very lucky to have the support of our two fantastic TA's, Mrs Weston and Mrs Palin. Please use this page to access all the up-to-date information about the class and any resources that can support learning at home.

Our Next Topic – 'Autumn'

Over the next few weeks we will be starting our first topic 'Autumn' this will allow us to enjoy the season and settle properly into school life.

Supporting Your Child At Home

For phonics we are following the Read Write Inc. scheme. We will start having phonics sessions every day in the next few weeks and a daily sheet will be sent home for your child to practice.
On the right of this page there is also a Powerpoint on Read Write Inc for parents, this will provide you with some information on how we teach phonics and what you can do at home to support this.

Recommended online games:

Phonics play

Children will bring home a school library book for you to enjoy together, this will be sent home on a Monday and be collected on a Friday.
Then over the forthcoming weeks the children will be provided with reading books, these will not contain any words. The children should observe the pictures to create their own stories using their imagination.

Supporting Your Child with their Maths

It is all about securing our numbers 1-10 and moving on to 11 to 20 now. We shall be using the numberblocks to support our teaching and we shall post video clips below as we use them in class for you to revisit at home.

On the right of the page there is an EYFS maths presentation, explaining what maths looks like in Reception.

There are a number of great real life links to maths you can make the most of at home these include baking (measuring) and shopping/saving (coin recognition). You can also look for different shapes when you are out and about- we will start with circles, semi-circles, triangles and different quadrilaterals.

Number recognition and formation is really important and a nice quick activity to work on a little at a time at home. In particular the numbers 1-10 at the moment.

Over the first half term our main focus is ensuring that your children settle into school life and enjoy being at school. Please use our class email if you have any concerns or want to share anything with us.
