Welcome to the Reception Class Page.

Mrs Rogers and Mrs Sykes share the teaching of this class. We are very lucky to have the support of our fantastic TA, Mrs Kaziewcz, for part of the week and this year we shall also have the support of a student in the class called Miss Walker at the end of each week. Please use this page to access all the up-to-date information about the class and any resources that can support learning at home.

Our Current Topic – 'The Extraordinary Gardener'

This half term we will be enjoying an exciting topic all about planting, Spring and nature. We will be basing our learning around the story 'The extraordinary gardener. We will also explore St David's day and Wales, Mothers' Day, St Patrick's Day and Easter

Please visit the National Oak Academy for their daily lessons.

It is all about securing our numbers 1-10 and moving on to 11 to 20 now. We shall be using the numberblocks to support our teaching and we shall post video clips below as we use them in class for you to revisit at home. As part of our daily practise this term, we shall have a number of the week as our focus. We will link this to a corresponding shape for example when looking at the number 3 we will learn about triangles.

There are a number of great real life links to maths you can make the most of at home these include baking (measuring) and shopping/saving (coin recognition). You can also look for different shapes when you are out and about- we will start with circles, semi-circles, triangles and different quadrilaterals.

Number recognition and formation is really important and a nice quick activity to work on a little at a time at home. In particular the teen numbers at the moment.

We highly recommend using this home learning resource from White Rose to help teach your child maths at home to suit their specific year group. There are five daily lessons for each week and they provide audio teaching and related worksheets free to download for your child to complete. They suggest to spend between 20-30 minutes on each daily session.

R.E Topic

Our R.E focus this term is all about why Christians celebrate Easter. At home you could explore the Easter story with your child/children.

We would love to see any work where the children have been using technology at home, money in real life situations. Have they created any works of art or helped with the baking or gardening? Are they an expert on a topic at home?
