Reception

Welcome to the Reception Class Page.

My name is Mrs Gregory and I am the Reception class teacher. I am so excited to meet you all and looking forward to all the wonderful adventures we are going to have this year!

This page is full of useful information for parents, including pictures of what we've been up to during the term and helpful tips on supporting you at home.

Over the first few weeks of school your child will bring home a story each week to read for pleasure with their adult. These books are to promote your child's love of reading, try reading them with silly voices, look in detail at the imagery and discuss what is happening in the book. When your child returns the book to school we will have a class discussion about what they loved/didn't love about the book and why.

Please ensure your child brings their named water bottle, PE kit and all items of uniform are labelled clearly, as we don't want them getting lost.

If you have any questions, worries or concerns, please do drop me an email at:
reception@actonceprimary.net

Looking forward to meeting you all,

Mrs Gregory

Supporting Your Child At Home

Phonics
For phonics we are following the Read Write Inc. scheme. We have daily phonics sessions in class.
On the right of this page there is also a Powerpoint on Read Write Inc for parents, this will provide you with some information on how we teach phonics and what you can do at home to support this. We also have logins for Teach Your Monster to Read and encourage you to use this resource at home, the children love the games!

Reading
Children bring home a school library book for you to enjoy together, this will be sent home on a Monday and be collected on a Friday. They also get two school reading books handed out on Monday and collected on a Friday. Please read with your child for 15 minutes a day, encourage them to sound out words and blend them together and ask them questions about the story. Your child will also get sent home a list of 'red words', these are words that cannot be segmented and blended and need to be learned as a whole. These words are checked at the end of each week and if they are confident with them, they will receive the next list.

Supporting Your Child with their Maths

It is all about securing our numbers 1-20. We shall be using the numberblocks to support our teaching and we shall post video clips below as we use them in class for you to revisit at home.

On the right of the page there is an EYFS maths presentation, explaining what maths looks like in Reception.

There are a number of great real life links to maths you can make the most of at home these include baking (measuring) and shopping/saving (coin recognition). You can also look for different shapes when you are out and about- we will start with circles, semi-circles, triangles and different quadrilaterals.

Number recognition and formation is really important and a nice quick activity to work on a little at a time at home. In particular the numbers 1-10. There is a PowerPoint at the side of this page to support your child with their number formation.

We also have a subscription to Numbots, this is an online game to help your children practise their mental maths at home and school.
